Born and brought up in the Shetland Islands in the North of Scotland, Chris Stout has become nationally and internationally recognised as one of the most exciting and dynamic fiddle players on the traditional music scene.

Whether as a solo artist or as a duo with long time musical associate Catriona McKay, Chris continues to innovate within traditional and contemporary musical circles, delivering performances that continue to excite and inspire audiences all over the world.

Chris’s restless ambition to collaborate and discover music from around the world has taken him to countries such as Brazil, Japan, Russia, Jordan, Algeria, USA, Canada and Singapore as well as touring extensively throughout Europe.

Chris has also performed many iconic venues such as the world famous Sydney Opera House and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.

He has also composed for and performed with The Royal Scottish National Orchestra,  The Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, The B.B.C. Scottish Symphony orchestra, The Singapore Chinese Orchestra, The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Nova Scotia. In 2012 Chris was delighted to record the solo violin parts for the Pixar animation ‘Brave’ with the London Symphony Orchestra!

Chris’s music talks truthfully about the land and seascapes of Shetland. The music is open and expansive. However, for over 25 years now Chris has lived in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city. It is this contrast which has further shaped the energy of his music and given it the identity it has today. Progressive and looking forward, yet with a deep respect of where it has come from, the deep, solid grounding of the Shetland Islands.

His recording career has seen him release over 20 albums with various projects while also appearing as special guest on countless others.

Chris Stout has left few musical genres unexplored but his style remains grounded. He has become a true international musical ambassador to his native Shetland Islands.
